The main resources of the French Polynesian atolls can be summarised quite simply as follows: copra, fishing, pearl farming and tourism.

The present study shows the various degrees to which each of these four sectors has been developed. It has been attempted here to identify the dynamics to which each of them has given rise in its own particular sphere and the interest it has aroused in Polynesia as a whole.
As far as the atolls are involved, is it possible to count on a source of revenue as a means of mobilising the Territory and  promoting a new socio-economic deal?
