Haraiki (Crocker)

Haraiki, which was discovered by Bougainville in 1768, is situated 17°28' south and 143°23'42" west.  This atoll is triangular in shape, measures 7 km by 4.5 km, and has a single passage in the south, whereby the lagoon communicates with the open sea.

The emergent land covers an area of 350 hectares, whereas the lagoon itself has an area of  1 100 hectares and consists of  2 superimposed basins separated by a rim.

This island is uninhabited and only very occasionally frequented.

Along with Marutea, Haraiki belongs to the administrative commune of Makemo .
